Notes on Design #3

The medium dictates the design. The viewing range for a book is not the same as for a poster. And books are three dimensional–that’s a fundamental difference between books and posters. Books even have a fourth dimension if you count their overlapping pages. A book is also a riddle, and the cover can’t reveal the contents-they are revealed by opening it, leafing through it page by page and reading.” —Fons Hickmann, German designer
